Library Working Hours
Open on all working days from 9.30am to 04.30 pm.
The Government College for Women Library is one of the largest and oldest college libraries in Kerala. The Library established in 1897 and now functioning in a newly constructed four-storied building situated at the centre of the campus. The Library provides comfortable, efficient and friendly support to all members of the college. The Library tries to prove itself to be the most dynamic Library in providing professional assistance to students and faculty in their academic activities. In addition to providing educational materials, the Library also delivers various information and research services like finding and organizing information and interpreting information needs.
Central Library
The Library is designated to collect, disseminate and preserve the knowledge for study and research purpose. The Library is nourished with more than 98500 books which are hosted in the Central Library and Department Libraries. The Central Library is subscribing 13 newspapers and 35 general periodicals. Apart from delivering printed resources, the Library provides facilities for accessing e-journals, e-books and other electronic resources. Library also subscribes “National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)”, from INFLIBNET, which enables the authorized clientele to access e- resources.
The Central Library of Govt. Women's College, Thiruvananthapuram, is housed in a four-story, eco-friendly building designed to cater to diverse academic needs. The Ground Floor features the property counter, circulation desk, newspaper and periodicals section, and the administrative wing. The First Floor accommodates the stack area, rare books collection, and CDs collection. The Second Floor is dedicated to the reference section, archival materials, faculty-authored books, and academic archives. The Third Floor is home to the cyber space and researchers' section, providing a conducive environment for digital learning and research.
The library is fully automated using the open-source library management software KOHA, enabling users to easily access the collection through the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). We offer a variety of services, including Reference Services, access to Previous Question Papers, User Orientation, In-house and Remote Access to E-resources, Assistance in Database Searches, and Current Awareness Updates to support academic research and learning.
